ReWorld’s mission toward the 30x30 Initiative

As 2023 starts and ReWorld takes flight, we are proud of our mission’s core commitment to the 30x30 initiative, a global conservation effort to protect 30% of the world’s land and oceans by 2030. The initiative, first proposed at the United Nations’ 15th Conference of the Parties on Biodiversity in 2022, is an ambitious effort to protect and restore natural habitats, prevent species extinctions, and mitigate the impacts of climate change. This is Conservation at a scale that’s never been attempted before.

To achieve the 30x30 initiative, countries worldwide will need to identify areas that require protection and implement sustainable practices in these areas. National parks are a typical example of protected land, with 17% of the planet currently designated as such. These protected areas are managed to allow for sustainable use and promote biodiversity. This may involve restrictions on activities such as logging and agriculture, which can be damaging to natural habitats. The ultimate goal is to use these protected areas in a way that promotes sustainability and protects the biodiversity within them for both land and seas.

Conserving natural habitats and biodiversity is costly, with estimates suggesting that it requires approximately 700 billion dollars per year. In addition to the financial cost, there is also the challenge of reforming industries that have historically operated in a way that is damaging to the environment.

Less industrialized countries are seeking support from more industrialized nations to make the transition to more sustainable practices and avoid the destruction of their natural resources. This support can take the form of financial aid and assistance in implementing sustainable policies and technologies.

ReWorld is bridging that gap — connecting trusted climate conservation organizations to reliable, trusted financing

ReWorld is helping to achieve the 30x30 initiative through a range of conservation projects worldwide. These projects aim to protect and restore natural habitats, prevent species extinctions, and mitigate the impacts of climate change. We work closely with local communities, governments, and other organizations to develop and implement effective strategies for conserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable development.

Through our first initiative with Proyecto Titi, we are working to protect and restore the habitat of the critically-endangered Cotton-Top Tamarin, as well as educate local communities about the importance of conservation and sustainable development.

Proyecto Titi is the first step towards our goal of helping the world achieve the 30x30 global initiative. By protecting and restoring the habitat of the Tamarin, we are not only helping to save this critically endangered species, but also contributing to the protection of the larger ecosystem in which it lives. Through this project, we demonstrate the positive impact that conservation efforts can have and hope to inspire others to join us in our mission to create a more sustainable future for all.

Proyecto Titi aligns with several of the 30x30 goals and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), including:

  • SDG 1: No Poverty — Proyecto Titi provides income sources and sustainable farming practices to local communities through their social programs. This improved the economic situation of the communities.

  • SDG 4: Quality Education — Proyecto Titi’s environmental education and awareness programs help educate and engage children from local communities about the importance of protecting the cotton-top tamarins and their ecosystems. This promotes a culture of environmental conservation and encourages children to become environmental stewards in their communities.

Since 2010, more than 10,000 students have participated in Proyecto Titi’s education programs!

  • SDG 5: Gender Equality — PT started many artisan programs, such as eco-mochilas and plush toys, to encourage women in local communities to make a sustainable living while taking care of their families and their homes. PT works with these artisans to provide training in different areas and takes care of the marketing of their products so that they can secure an income for their families.

There were no plush cotton-top tamarin toys found in Colombia, so local artisans filled that niche by creating a variety of designs featuring cotton-top tamarins.

  • SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities — PT involves in sustainable farming practices by encouraging local communities to use forest resources in a responsible and balanced way through conservation agreements. This helps to protect wildlife and promote long-term sustainable development in the area.

  • SDG 13: Climate Action — Proyecto Titi’s forest protection and restoration efforts help reduce the impact of climate change generated by extensive deforestation. By restoring and protecting forests, Proyecto Titi helps reverse the trend of deforestation and brings back ecosystems for the benefit of wildlife species and people.

  • SDG 15: Life on Land — Proyecto Titi’s forest protection and restoration efforts also contribute to the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, forests, wetlands, and deserts. These efforts help bring back the forests that are home to cotton-top tamarins and many other wildlife species that share a home with the monkeys.

  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals — Proyecto Titi’s work is supported by partnerships with many stakeholders, including environmental authorities, other NGOs, farmers and artisans associations, schools, zoos around the world, corporate foundations, international funding organizations, compensation agreements, corporate social responsibility, media, etc.

ReWorld stands apart from other organizations in promising that 100% of your donation is guaranteed to go directly to our project partners.
